He received several death threats, and several other raГЇ musicians were murdered. In 1986, Khaled fled to Paris due to the rising violence in Algeria. The same year, he was crowned King of RaГЇ at the first official raГЇ festival in his home town of Oran. Lieutenant-Colonel Hosni Snoussi, director of the state-supported arts and culture Office Riadh el Feth became interested in his artistic work and invited him to perform in a state-sponsored festival in 1985. In the 1980's, he embraced the emerging musical genre known as raГЇ, and soon rose to national fame. At age 14, he formed a band with his friends and began performing with them at nightclubs and weddings. Khaled was born in Oran, Algeria in 1960.

Later, he dropped the 'Cheb' from his professional name, and now goes by simply 'Khaled'. Khaled is an Algerian raГЇ musician who began singing in his teens, using the name Cheb Khaled, which means 'Young Khaled' in Arabic. 'Didi' was one of the opening songs for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Rabah was then required to compensate Khaled for the costs he had incurred defending himself in the case. However, in 2016 the charges against Khaled were dropped when Khaled was able to produce an audio tape of 'Didi' that he had recorded in 1982 and given to a producer in Oran, Algeria. In 2015, Rabah Zerradine (known as Cheb Khaled) won a lawsuit claiming Khaled had plagiarized his song 'Angui ou Selmi' which was released in 1988.
